Group project: logo/mascot

August 24, 2010 in News

Our first meeting is now history and for our very first group project we decided to create a logo and/or mascot for the group. That way, when we make future announcements over at BlenderNation, I won’t have to upload one of my crappy test renders as the announcement’s official image. :D

Anyway, I’ve started a thread in the forum for kicking around ideas. Come on over and join in!

First meeting: Saturday, August 14 at 2:00 pm

August 11, 2010 in News

After many hours of negotiations – or maybe it was just an email or two – we’ve picked a time and place for our first meeting:

When: Saturday August 14, 2010 at 2:00 pm
Where: Starbucks, 3706 Hillsboro Pike, Nashville, TN

This first meeting will be very informal. We’ll get to know each other a bit and talk about our ideas and goals for the Blender group. See you there!

First meeting thoughts

August 8, 2010 in News

Even though there aren’t many of us in this group yet, we should perhaps go ahead and plan a first meeting.  Group member Jeremy and I have emailed back and forth a little bit about the idea, but I thought I would make a post on the topic so other members – and potential members – can get in on the act as well.

One of the reasons to have a first meeting is so that BlenderNation will announce our existence, which in turn will help us grow our membership. Other than that, what would we want to accomplish at our first meeting? Jeremy has mentioned the notion of a group project. What sort of project would people be interested in? And what do we need for this first meeting? Computers? Just ourselves?

Where and when could we have this meeting? I’d be glad to have the meeting at my place in the Green Hills area of Nashville, but I’m open to other locations. Given that our turnout will likely be small, I think we should go with a free location though. As to when, I’m available weekday evenings after 6 or 7, depending on the specific day. I could also meet on Saturdays after about 1 pm and at pretty much any time on Sundays.

Of course, if it ends up being only me and Jeremy, I suppose we could just meet at Wendy’s or something. :D

Any thoughts?

New Feature: Albums

July 11, 2010 in News

I just added a new Album feature so that members can upload Blender renders to their profiles.  At the moment, the album is limited to stills only; I’ll look into adding video functionality down the road.  And there’s a limit of 50 photos per user – just to keep the server from getting filled with image files.  I may look at raising that down the road as well.

But for now, please try out the new Album functionality and see what you think.  Just go to your profile page and look for the “Album” link.

Founding members and RSS feeds

July 9, 2010 in News

Hey, would you look at that:  this proto-site has been up just a few days and we already have four members!  At this rate of growth, we’ll soon be able to take over the world!  I guess we can consider the four of us as the founding members of the Nashville Blender group (or whatever we end up calling it).  Welcome, guys -  you’re a part of history!

And, just a quick note to say that I’ve added RSS feeds in the sidebar for four of the most prolific and helpful Blender sites that I know of.  Now you can check the latest Blender news right here at the site.  How cool is that?

Getting started

July 4, 2010 in News

This is a basic – and perhaps temporary – web site while we see if we can start up a Blender group in Nashville, TN, USA.  There will be more here soon.  In the meantime, please join if you’re interested in being a part of such a group.

Thanks,

Matt Jordan
